Jazzercise ~ Dancing Your Way to Fitness

Grab your favorite workout outfit and comfy sneakers and get ready to MOVE!! For over 20 years Jazzercise has been helping locals in the Decatur area stay fit! A fitness concept that started in California back in 1969, Jazzercise today, is still a popular and fun exercise program offered in over 32 countries!

Who knew that working out could be so fun! With the combination of jazz dance, Pilates, yoga, kickboxing, and aerobic movements, Jazzercise incorporates all these movements into a 60 minute class. Each class is choreographed to a mix of music that keeps you moving from the start of class until the stretch and closer at the end. Five times a year Jazzercise updates their play list for their music and creates new choreographed workouts for each song, using songs from all genres of music from pop, R&B to even country. Jazzercise typically introduces 150 new songs and movements to their classes each year. You may even hear a song in your Jazzercise class before you hear it on the radio as they have access to new music sometimes before it hits the mainstream. Every class is always a different combination of music and workout, starting with a warm-up moving into cardio dance base movement, upper body, core and lower body strength training, and ending with a stretch and closer. Jazzercise even offers Junior Jazzercise classes for kids 5 to 9 years of age, and classes for older kids and teens 10 to 15 years of age during the school year.

Michele Runge, a Jazzercise Instructor since 1987, owns and operates the Decatur Jazzercise studio, located at 114A New St in Decatur. The Decatur Jazzercise offers 22 classes per week, 7 days a week, with morning, afternoon and evening classes offered. Michele encourages anyone with a dance background or someone who enjoys music and dancing to try a Jazzercise class. If you are someone that likes to be prepared you can even study up online by visiting the Jazzercise website to learn the basic Jazzercise movements.

June is a perfect time to try Jazzercise as they are offering FREE classes on Fridays all month. Plus, if you decide to join, you can get unlimited classes for only $129 until August 31st! Keep an eye out for other upcoming events and classes this month as the Decatur Jazzercise is offering self defense classes and a kid’s night Dance Extravaganza.
